I rent from the bank now…

So, as most of you know I haven’t posted here in quite some time. . .

Oh how life catches up with us. Ironically enough I am busy checking off my “grown up” list while still holding onto being a big kid.

I locked myself into 30 years of renting from the same person. My house is new construction, so that is nice… but now I have to mow and do this other stuff. The important part there is that the wife = happy.

I am going to keep this post short, and tell everyone that once I get the net at my new place I will get some more quality content up.

Online Store…

Thinking of starting my own online store. It would most likely start off as a Luxe superstore, but would expand from there. Looking for reader feedback…

Want to be Something?

March 31, 2012 Leave a comment

Have a goal or interested in being something? There is a very simple solution to accomplish your goal, pretend you are long enough. I am not trying to say be a fake or anything, but if you want to be a PRO, then ACT like a PRO. Identify what SUCCESSFUL PRO’S do and do that. Easy. Not doing those things or doing things that are opposite of that will lead to failure.

The Point: act like a pro to become one!

REFLECT

There is a lot that I am learning trying to make the transition from semi pro to pro (and trying to build a pro team and organization). A lot of the things I noticed after our practice with XSV in Modesto last weekend have been posted over the last week, since on the drive home I schedule them to post up that way (this post is being written on Tuesday 3/27/12 prior to the event!).

One thing we (Vendetta) did wrong this weekend was we did not spend enough time REFLECTING. We would go out to the field to play two games, then air up and get ready to go again, then head back to the field for 2 more games. Don’t get me wrong, we all chatted and changed things and all that, but we really didn’t take the time to map out the other teams break out, our break out, and analyzed what we could have improved. What I noticed was we would come out to play two games, one against XSV, then one against their D1 team. XSV would play their game against us, then all huddle up with field maps and break down everything. At the start of the practice Rich Telford was not playing much… he was watching, analyzing, and studying the fields and the moves.

The Point: do the work, then take the time to reflect. It is important to not only think about what you could do to improve, but also to communicate that with your team mates if you want to be a force to recon with on the tournament field.

Battling is Stupid

Battling, the art of gun fighting, is typically a losing battle… Obviously practice makes perfect, but to get into a good bunker and then get shot out because you decided you wanted to snap battle is dumb.

The key: get the ground and put the pressure on the other team. Exploit the other teams weakness. Pick on the weak. Find the players in the hardest to play bunkers and PICK ON THEM. Take easy kills by baiting the other team.

The Point: choose your battles wisely.

Everyone Needs A Coach

This is preached by a lot of people, but any successful person will tell you “you need a coach.” The crappy part… Those people most likely had a coach, know the value of having a coach, and are qualified to be YOUR coach. This makes what their telling you sound like a sales pitch!

Over the weekend Vancouver Vendetta played XSV at their home field in Modesto, CA… And needless to say that they not only had many veteran players, but people our recording their break outs, the opponents break out, and building their battle plan for NPPL Huntington Beach! We (Vendetta) had 8 players attend the practice, so we could have one player monitoring games, but their was not system… And we did not have a dedicated coach. The input of a coach is invaluable because it adds an outside unbais opinion on what is happening on the field, ideally from an experienced person!

The Point: get a coach and get them to your practices and to the events!

Great Tool

If you are playing in the NPPL Huntington Beach event like me, this is a great tool:

Use it as you please, but it is nice to see the layout (PERFECT / ON PAPER) prior to going to the event!
